Frequently asked questions
Can I perform with MIDC?
Anyone (18+) who has had any type of Irish dance training is welcome to become a member of MIDC and perform with us! The company usually has between 1-3 performance opportunities (both paid and unpaid) each month.
How do I become an MIDC member?
Come dance with us! Try out a rehearsal to see if MIDC is a good fit. We meet every Wednesday at 7 pm at 3555b N Oakland Ave in Shorewood. Just shoot an email to company@milwaukeeirishdance.com to let us know you're coming.
If you love it, yearly membership is $200 to cover costumes and company expenses. We cap the company at 25, but new members can join anytime if spots are open!
What is the time commitment?
We rehearse Wednesday nights at 7pm in Shorewood. We usually dance between 1-2 hours depending on what we're working on. Each month we have around 2-3 show opportunities (both paid and unpaid)!
As a member of MIDC you are expected to perform. However, you can sign up for each show as it works in your schedule.
What level of Irish Dance experience is required for MIDC?
Our dancers range from non-competitive to Novice to PC/OC to World-Qualifier. No matter where you stopped in your dance career, you are welcome! Our show-style choreography can be adapted to suit your individual abilities and style.
Can I join if I am still competing?
Yes! We have had many dancers in MIDC that perform with us but also compete for other schools. As an inclusive performance company we only do show style choreography. If you are still competing and want to dance with us - talk to your TC about it!
I haven't danced for 10+ years . . . can I still join?
YES! You will be surprised at how quickly your body remembers how to Irish dance. You're not alone, either. We have several dancers who haven't done the reel in 12 years!
In fact, most of us wear clean tennis shoes during rehearsal - so if you can't find your shoes, no worries!
I want to learn to Irish dance. Do you teach classes?
MIDC is designed for dancers who already have a background in Irish dance. However, if you want to learn how to Irish dance or just brush up on your skills - the Milwaukee Irish Dance Studio offers a wide range of Adult Irish Dance classes.
EXPLORE CLASSES
If you are looking for a one off class, we recommend checking out Jigs & Swigs: The Irish Dance Workout®. J+S® is an Irish dance inspired workout class hosted at local breweries. Your ticket includes a workout + a beverage and absolutely no Irish dance experience is needed!
UPCOMING JIGS & SWIGS®
When is a good time to start?
The sooner you start taking classes, the sooner you will learn our choreography and can be added to future shows!
